Introducing the December Issue
Welcome to The Vintage Gun Journal, your free-to-view monthly magazine for all things British gun and rifle.
So, Christmas is upon us, or very nearly. We have Holt's auction on the first two days of December to start off the month. Those with money to spend will find some worthwhile trinkets therein.
The shooting season is now in full swing here, the rain and snow has concentrated the birds into the coverts and they are now fully feathered and strong. My pair of vizslas are enjoying the hunt and thesedays I gain as much pleasure from working them as I do from shooting.
Maybe it is a sign of age, a few years ago I was all about pulling the trigger and stretching my skills as a game shot. Today, I am content to see my young pup working the cover and enjoying herself, or Vesper, my old girl, retreiving a runner and looking pleased with herself.
I was at Westley Richards on Tuesday and they had their splendidly decorated Christmas tree up - and where better to find that top quaity gift for a sporting someone?
Looking ahead, I will probably be at Dallas Safari Club in January, though remember, it is in Atlanta this year! I may also be at SCI in Nevada but that is not yet settled.
May I take this opportunity to thank you all for reading the VGJ and for your input over the last year. We may be a scattered community but we are passionate!
Wishing you all a very merry Christmas - but get plenty of hunting in before then - we have the best month of the season ahead of us.
