Probably my favourite of all the American events each year is the Southern Side x Side at Deep River in North Carolina.
Founded by Bill Kempffer twenty-five years ago, it has maintained its place at the top of the tree ever since. The combination of good numbers of dealers from the UK and the USA displaying their wares and hotly contested competitions between owners' clubs has guaranteed a good level of participation and interest over the years.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the event and includes a Kempffer Cup in honour of the founder, who has now stepped away from organising the event, due to advancing years.
Deep River has a private airport close by and I'm usually fortunate to attend with a friend who flies us in via Citation. Otherwise, the roads are clear and open and the countryside setting in the woods is perfect for the event.
The Southern Side x Side is highly recommended, not just for American readers but any Brits wishing to get a taste of the passion our American friends have for classic firearms should make a plan to visit.
